<영어 대본 연극 수업 따라 하기>는 크게 두 부분으로 구성되어 있습니다. 1부에서는 영어 교육에서 연극의 효과 및 읽기 교육의 중요성을 바탕으로 리더스 씨어터를 중점적으로 소개하면서 재미있고 의미 있는 수업 속 연극 활동을 제안합니다. 2부에서는 영어 연극 수업에서 직접 활용할 수 있는 대본을 짜임새 있게 활용할 구체적인 방법을 제시합니다. 여기에서는 2가지 테마(Literacy와 Science)에 따라 대본을 분류하고, 개별 대본마다 기본적으로 <대본의 이해> <Before the Readers Theater> <During the Readers Theater> <After the Readers Theater>로 구분하여 다양한 활동을 소개합니다. <대본의 이해>에서는 대본의 내용에 대한 간략한 소개 및 특징을 설명하고, <Before the Readers Theater>에서는 본격적인 대본 읽기를 시작하기 전, 주제 관련 필요한 질문 혹은 사전 지식 확인과 같이 대본 이해를 위한 활동을 제안합니다. 대본을 재미있게 효과적으로 읽도록 지도에 필요하면서 동시에 리더스 씨어터의 준비물이 될 수 있는 자료 만들기 활동도 제시합니다. <During the Readers Theater>에서는 대본을 효과적으로, 재미있게 읽을 수 있는 방법에 집중합니다. 대본을 읽는 동안 할 수 있는 기본 활동을 제안하고, 대본을 보다 잘 이해하고 대본에 적극적이고 창의적으로 반응할 공간을 마련할 활동을 제시합니다. 마지막으로 <After the Readers Theater>에서는 관련된 주제의 도서를 소개하거나 <플러스 대본 읽기>를 통한 심화 활동을 제시해서 해당 주제를 보다 깊이 있게 알아보거나 연관된 주제로 확장할 수 있는 공간을 구성합니다. 마지막 <부록>에는 연극 수업에서 교사와 학생간의 팀워크를 형성하기에 좋은 쉽고 간단하고 재미있는 <선생님과 함께하는 연극 놀이 대본>과 리더스 씨어터 수업을 시작하는 단계의 지도 교사에게 실용적인 가이드가 될 수 있도록 본문에 언급된 대본 가운데 인원수가 정해진 <리더스 씨어터 예시 대본>을 첨부합니다.
